“I don’t believe that we should have to compromise the safety of our health for our choices in fashion and expressing our personality.”-Shelby Anderson
Sol Sisters, owned and founded by third year Social Policy and Public Service major and ANTrepreneur Shelby Anderson, is a one-stop shop for the everyday women’s sun protective needs. It provides fashionable UV protective clothing, cosmetics, and accessories at an affordable price.
The idea to begin the business arose from a burn accident that happened to Shelby in the summer of 2013. The burn made Shelby’s skin extra sun sensitive, and she failed to find the UV products that fit both her personality and age. It turned Shelby to create a one-stop-shop for UV protection with a wide selection of attractive fashion choices: Sol Sisters.
The paramount challenge building this enterprise is working solo. All steps of developing Sol Sisters are either initiated or accomplished by herself. To put herself into an atmosphere of sharing business ideas, Shelby has been visiting UCI ANTrepreneur Center a lot for mentoring, attending events, and applying for business competitions.
Another common challenge as a college entrepreneur is to balancing a startup and school. The tip Shelby provides is that she uses a big calendar to write down everything she needs to do to stay organized.
Looking forward, Shelby aims to get into an accelerated program, and to design and produce her own line.
